I am so going to this.

I am so going to this.

Oh wait maybe I'm not

I have something else that night too :(

i'm confused

have all three candidates committed to attending this? isnt it awfully premature, seeing how today was the first day to circulate? or are you rushing to hand Dicker an endorsement before others get in the race?

Say what you want about NN,

Say what you want about NN, but, I doubt they are rushing to do much. They are a pretty Democratic, and bc of that, a pretty slow acting body.

They had a forum in the 8th- in fact, the first one I believe- before all candidates had declared. It was a positive, well-attended event.

Invited means invited

As of now, we're expecting Dicker and Vignola. We have a possibly unfair presumption that anyone who hasn't publicly announced an intention of running before now is not a serious candidate; but we hope that holding an event like this will encourage such people to at least get in touch with us, and we aren't ruling out holding more events later in the year.

And if we were rushing to hand Dicker an endorsement, we probably wouldn't bother with a candidate forum in the first place. The rest of our process is cumbersome enough.

Hope to see you there.

Neighborhood Citizens Alliance Network

This is absurd. We do not even know who is running for this seat as the deadline to offer names for nomination is February 12th. This is a sham! Your group lacks credibility when you do things such as this. Why don't wait to see who actually decides to run and present themselves for nomination? Is the fix in? Is Neighborhood Networks any better than Citizens Alliance?

Pebbles, seriously, what do

Pebbles, seriously, what do you think you are accomplishing?

It's simple.

Re-electing Fumo is what Pebbles is trying to accomplish. To that aim she will trumpet any candidate possible (including ones not actually interested in running) to split the race and deliver it to Fumo, very similar to how some argue a plurality of candidates won the 8th District Council primary for Donna Reed Miller.

To that aim she will stoop to any low including providing backing for a ludicrous Fumo-generated smear campaign to paint Dicker a Mumia Abu Jamaal supporter, as she did here.

My own fearless Oscar prediction is that the Fumo camp is having hard time finding one of their own that is willing to take the hit in credibility that would come from running as a stalking horse in this race and that Pebbles is frustrated at not having a candidate of her own yet to trot out for this event.

By the way, I plan to come out.

MrLuigi, my cat, actually only types half as badly as I do.

Has Mumia Abu Jamal endorsed anyone in the

1st District primary yet?

The Corruption of Neighborhood Networks

Yes, NN is definitely a questionable organization.

The word on the street was that its initial funding came from a corrupt deal between one of its founders, Marc Stier, and Ken Weinstein. When Weinstein wanted to bring the Trolley Car Ice Cream shop to Mt. Airy, he faced tremendous opposition from people in Mt. Airy who were concerned about many issues: the high fat content of the Ice Cream Weinstein planned to sell and the possible influx of undesirables from Chestnut Hill. Other opponents who were those who seeing a restoration of the 23 Trolley and were fearful that the appearance of a trolley car on Germantown Avenue would satisfy trolley advocates, thus imperiling the movement to restore the Trolley.

In the face of massive opposition, Stier, who was then President of West Mt. Airy Neighbors, called a surprise meeting of zoning committee of West Mt. Airy Neighbors for 2:00 in the morning at McMenamin's Tavern. Despite the late hour, ten opponents did show up. So Stier and Weinstein bought them so much beer that they eventually signed a statement in support of the Trolley Car Ice Cream Shop. Stier took this statement to the ZBA to help secure support for the Trolley Car Ice Cream Shop.

In return, Weinstein made a double digit contribution to Neighborhood Networks.

The organization has since used its huge, ill-gotten funding base to elect many candidates to office.

Snort

Your insight into Mount Airy politics is uncanny.

(By the way, I personally have seen* Marc Stier in the express line at Acme with as many as seventeen items in his cart. And yet he calls himself a progressive.)

*-by which I mean someone else told me

Caught but with an explanation

You see I had nine different items and 8 Stonyfield Yogurts. I couldn't figure out whether the 8 Stonyfield Yogurts count as one item, since they could be rung up all at once, or 8 items.

I tried asking all the people on the floor. None of them could answer me. Most seemed annoyed by the question. One asked me if I was a philosopher or something.

Finally, after a half hour of wandering around searching for an honest answer, the customer service representative told me to get on line and ask the clerk on the express lane.

She told me that the eight Yogurts did indeed count as 1 item and that issue was explicitly discussed in the Acme "rule of procdure for checkers" chapter 14, paragraph 22, clause 3.

Just then the store manager came by and disputed this assertion. The checker said he would get out the book and show him. The manager threatened to fire the checker. At which point I had to call my friend John Myerson of UFCW Local 1776 and find out what the checker could do to save his job.

So I spent an hour and a half saving time in the express lane.

As for the story of the zoning dispute over the Trolley Car Ice Cream Shoppe...no comment.

Bad neighbor

What Marc's not telling you is that the nine other items were also yogurt -- different brands and products.

That's why he was at the Acme in the first place -- they won't let him shop at Weavers' Way anymore. The man cleans out the case. And then he wants to debate the finer points of each of them while you're waiting on line. You don't even want to know the co-op rules about that. We're talking addenda to subclauses. I had to move to West Philadelphia just to escape the drama.

I am not alone. Read Philadelphia Magazine.

Dan, I at times get a bit geared up and if I did that, my apologies. Too many manhattans the night before. Despite Luigi's insistence, my aim is to seek and find a qualified candidate to become my State Senator. Be it Ballen, Hohns, Thomson or Mr. Gaetano - anyone with a resume beyond zero. When you get to be my age, you realize there are fewer elections behind you than are in front of you. I believe Dicker is hurting us by insisting on staying in this race. Even with the city paper article, which proves there are many others who feel as I do, she insists on running and helping Fumo win. May I please call everyone's attention to the recent Philadeplhia Magazine article on Dicker?
One can find it here: http://www.phillymag.com/articles/politics_anne_of_a_thousand_dreams/

I am an avid subscriber though I have yet to partake in any of the services of its advertised cosmetic surgeons. In due time. But after reading this, I must say, I am surprised Anne has not quit the race yet. If she does quit, it will be her best media coverage in quite some time.

I know I am ignoring the more important issues

but, Chanel, pearls AND manhattans. It's like I have (strange) doppelganger.

And, the belief in my

And, the belief in my "awesomeness." That should be on the list too.

I am working to elect Larry Farnese to the General Assembly. Unless otherwise expressly stated, this and every comment or blog I post on YPP and any action I take hereon is solely attributable to me and not Farnese or Friends of Farnese

Why leave for others what you can do yourself?

Pebbles, why don't you just run yourself? There is still plenty of time to file your petitions.

Why I bet Jennifer would sign your nominating petition just to get a chance to exchange fashion tips. In fact if you only got half the people you have unsucesfully attempted to draft for this race to sign your petitions you would be well on your way at this point.

We already know you have the wardrobe for the job.

A- HA!!! This was the

A- HA!!! This was the thread I was looking for! So is Jack a serious candidate? He seemed concerned that by not having a voice at such a forum he'd struggle to get known and raise fundage. I made a few suggestions about ways to get his name out there on the cheap. I'd still be really curious about who's running for what and where. Is anyone challenging Frank Oliver yet?

Integrate, don't separate! Make Brewerytown Great!
