Well, the wait is almost over. The Bureau of Elections is posting and updating the list of candidates as the petitions come in. Check it out here.
No huge surprises so far, though Doc is officially on the ballot in the 1st (some doubted it would actually happen). Thomas Blackwell, Bill Keller, Angel Cruz, Jewell Williams, and Curtis Thomas are all being challenged, and there are 2 Dem challengers to Harold James in the 186th. And there is a second challenger to Rosita Youngblood--other than Byron Davis--in the 198th.
Most interesting to me was the filing of a Richard Costello as a Democrat against John Perzel in the 172nd. Did I miss this--is this THE Rich Costello former head of the Fraternal Order of Police?
Let the games begin!

It's THE Rich Costello
Yes, former FOP leader Rich Costello has filed for the Democratic nomination against John Perzel.
2004 and 2006 Democratic nominee Tim Kearney has also filed.
Justice Scalia, smack this!
(If you guys didn't hear that interview, you should. Google it. BBC. Scary.)
Other notes:
1. Rep. Payton also has a challenger.
2. Rep. Keller's challenger is Christian Dicicco.
3. Congrats to Rep. Timothy Briggs! Whoa.
4. What happened to Cordisco? Did I fall asleep in a snowdrift and miss this?
5. Ah Tom Corbett. Poor unethical scheming Rovian Tom Corbett. Poor unethical scheming Rovian Tom Corbett, in whose Democratic opponent's base I am EXCEEDINGLY PLEASED TO BE WORKING THIS YEAR.
6. Isn't it cool that (b.c. of Clinton v. Obama) we PA dems get a fire drill for the general...and the Republicans don't? Ha ha!
and randomly
7. Lou Agre - where are you? You used to blog here but you stopped...but I know you still read this damn thing! I'm still hanging in here!
and
8. In more important news - YOU CAN NAME THE PHILLIES BLOG!
The Zo Zone is being renamed and they are taking suggestions...http://blogs.phillynews.com/inquirer/zozone/
I am very bad at headline writing so maybeone of you guys can.
Why did Larry Farnese file
Why did Larry Farnese file in the 2nd Senate district? In case Anne didn't get on the ballot?
charlesdog: He didn't. He filed in the 1st Senate District
There is speculation that he filed because a member of Local 98, Robert Gormley, filed to run against Babette Josephs (along with Farnese and Peggy Banaszek).
Ray: Costello's candidacy was reported in Clout
on Feb. 1.
The report of local contests is in today's Daily News

Snow day
And can I also just say - Lou Barletta.
Lou Barletta
Lou Barletta
Lou Barletta.
That guy is bad news bears. Straight up spiritual pollution.
Doing the dirty work for the GOP so McCain can stay clean.
Yuck.
Other comments - SEPA list will catch up
Sleepless kids and a headache kept me from catching the SEPA list up (it's less relevant now, of course, but I'm still looking for contact info and especially web sites).
Other notes: Republicans slimmed down their fields against Patrick Murphy and Allyson Schwartz. In the 8th, Tom Lingenfelter, a perennial gadfly candidate, must've realized that his last initial disqualified him, and some guy named Jeff Madden didn't file, leaving Tom Manion and Joe Montone running to the Republican nomination. In the 13th, I'm getting the sense that Marina Kats is the better-financed, more widely supported candidate; she's only running against Lee Falgoust in the primary after Frank Szabo didn't file. Are any of these folks a serious threat this year?
Angel Cruz has a challenger in the 180th - that's long been a battleground between him and recently jailed Ward leader Carlos Matos - anybody know anything about Jonathan Ramos?
Rich Costello DEMOCRAT to WIN in the 172nd
Rich Costello is going to be a GREAT candidate in the 172nd against John Perzel. He enters the campaign with a high voter recognition factor, and a definite appeal to just the kind of voter that Perzel thought he padded the district with when he surgically gerrymandered it into a pretzel last time around. “Politics is the art of the possible”…and it’s more than possible that this will be the most exciting race in the city in 2008!
