City Council Recycling Hearings - Thursday - 1 pm

City Council Hearings on Recycling
Thursday, February 22, 1 pm
Council Chambers - Rm. 400, City Hall

After 10 years and many false starts, Philadelphians have finally secured a hearing in front of City Council on recycling. This will be a notable day for the history of recycling in Philly, and in attending, the most important two hours any one of us can commit to advance recycling in Philadelphia. We need to pack the room with bodies & signs demanding recycling in your neighborhood (by name) with all the energy of the Vet's 700 section.

Like it or not, recycling is the face of environmental issues in the city today. People say, "how are we supposed to clean our air/protect open space/provide clean energy/etc. when we can't even get recycling right?"

The Nature of the Candidates (speculation galore)

So we have our first glimpse of all 5 candidates together. Stone cold policy has been discussed and will be discussed more. But governing is a combination of policy, personality and strategy. This is incredibly subjective, so I totally accept being ripped. So without further ado, a closer look into the candidates (relying a good deal on the NGC forum):

Bob Brady-
Brady the man would make a good mayor. His people are what scares me.

A friend in an adjacent ward recounted the story of when asked about sustainability several weeks ago, all Brady could come up with was how Chicago has green traffic islands. That's it. In the 3 weeks since then, he actually studied the NGC initiatives more than most of the other candidates and came off looking decent at something that is obviously not his strong suit.
