Remember Ralph Nader?
Submitted by Dan Pohlig on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 3:04pm.No, not just 2004 Ralph Nader - 2000 Ralph Nader who waged a pretty influential presidential campaign at a time when many were saying that the wasn't enough contrast between the major party candidates. Ah... the good old days. And the Ralph Nader who took on big business on so that the consumer could enjoy better safety standards.
Well that Ralph Nader is back in a documentary film called AN UNREASONABLE MAN by Stephen Skrovan & Henriette Mantel. The film takes an unsparing look at Ralph Nader, one of the most important and controversial political figures of our time - from his time as consumer advocate lobbying government on behalf of the little guy to when he became a candidate himself and affected the outcome of one of the closest presidential elections in history.
You are invited to a special screening of the film on November 14th at 6pm. Here are the details:
WHEN: Wednesday, November 14th, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
The Next Mayor project hosts an on-line, interactive candidate forum on 10/25 at 10am
Submitted by Dan Pohlig on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 8:18pm.Hey fans of Philadelphia issues and politics,
On Thursday, October 25th, at 10 a.m., The Next Mayor project will welcome Michael Nutter and Al Taubenberger to the WHYY studios for the first mayoral forum to be offered live and interactively to a mass audience.
We're still welcoming video questions through YouTube. Just send it to our YouTube account or email us at TheNextMayor@whyy.org. We've gotten some (ok... three) already and they're pretty good questions so feel free to join in the fun.
As for the "interactivity" of Thursday's event. After you take a couple minutes to go through a quick, easy and FREE registration process, you'll get an email confirmation and some simple tests to make sure that your computer is able to access all of the features.

Tomorrow we welcome Democratic nominee for Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter, to our virtual press conference, except by "press" we mean people wasting their employer's valuable time chatting at work or taking a break from afternoon courtroom television shows. All are welcomed to join in this chat with the man who, many believe, has a better-than-average shot at being the next mayor.
Make sure you check out the main page at 1pm tomorrow for information about how to participate in this Q&A session.
Al Taubenberger will join us in the "virtual family room" for a chat on Thursday.
America's Great Mayors Series - TONIGHT at 6PM
Submitted by Dan Pohlig on Mon, 05/21/2007 - 9:55am.Cross posted at thenextmayor.com blog. I'm trying to spread the word for the good folks at the Economy League and this seems like it could be an audience who would be interested in this event.
Ok, so you think Michael Nutter or Al Taubenberger will have a tough job rehabilitating the image of city government and the mayor's office after what it's gone through with federal probes, tower-climbing councilmen, and media relations that rival those of the Phillies front office?
