Citizen Diplomacy: IVC of Philadelphia

Interested in peace?

The International Visitors Council (IVC) of Philadelphia (http://www.ivc.org - seriously, we got the best URL possible) has been doing citizen diplomacy for years now - and we could use your help.

Citizen Diplomacy (http://www.ivc.org/citizen_diplomacy) is the right - if not the obligation of the individual citizen to be personally engaged in international relations.

Or as I think of it: Let's stop leaving it up to the career professionals. There's not enough of them, they can't do it all, they work for the government and they don't live here in Philadelphia anyway. Let's take back diplomacy, one handshake at a time. This isn't just an idealistic call to action - I'm asking you to come meet someone from Iraq, from China, from Russia. A chance to get past stereotypes and national politics, and talk, face-to-face. They might learn something. You might too. And you'll be promoting mutual understanding - and therefore peace.

ACLU: June 26th Day of Action to Restore Law & Justice

ACLU - June 26, 2007 Day of Action

Concerned about Habeas Corpus? Maybe you should be. Remember the Constitution? There's this one bit: "the privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public safety may require it."

Below follows the information for the upcoming (free!) bus trip to D.C. on Tuesday, the 26th of June. To sign up or find out more, just visit http://www.juneaction.org or the ACLU of Pennsylvania's website at http://aclupa.org. You can help by coming along, passing along the word, or printing out a flyer, available in PDF format at http://www.aclupa.org/downloads/DayofActionHabeas.pdf.

Join us in Washington, D.C.!

For nearly seven years, our core values of freedom and fairness have been eroded, from the suspension of habeas corpus and due process, to shameful acts of torture, CIA kidnappings and secret prison programs.
