Check this out, a new “Green” Candidate Announced In Race for Philadelphia Mayor

PHILADELPHIA- Official sources have confirmed a new candidate in the exciting race for mayor of Philadelphia. A candidate unlike the city has ever seen. A candidate that some insiders are calling the “greenest” ever to run for public office in the city.

The brand new Honda Civic Hybrid has hit the streets and announced its candidacy for the coveted office in City Hall. Running on a platform of “improved parking, less pollution, and a better, more progressive Philadelphia”, the candidate is sure to have a visible effect on the race.

For more information, watch here for another important announcement.

....

OK, now, everyone who said I made this election into a joke...

The Future, Today

I'm intrigued by the Civic's candidacy. Its background in a Japanese car company makes it an outsider to Philadelphia politics, and its hybrid engine makes it less beholden to Sunoco and the other big-money interests here and statewide. Plus, being inanimate, it's inherently uncorruptable. It might not be as funny as Michael Nutter or as physically imposing as Dwight Evans, but neither of those two guys, despite repeated requests, have ever taken to me to get my groceries.

In short, if the Honda Civic Hybrid can run the city as smoothly and efficiently as it handles tight corners and city driving, this magical car will receive serious consideration for my vote. Larry, I suggest you fold your candidacy and partner up with the Hybrid. It is the true future of Philadelphia politics.

Civic

Give it a bad dye job, 15 million dollars, no friends and some shady financial dealings it could surge ahead in the polls.

Interesting. That

Interesting. That description is just shy of one for Fumo ...

Actually my bad. Fumo isn't shady, he is indicted.

But I guess if Lou wants to get personal ...

We can say "take someone the size of a honda Civic, that also moves on wheels, with shady financial deals and we get Caroll Campbell." Oh wait, she isn't shady. She was found guilty twice.

No throwy rocky when live in glass housey.

Indidted does not mean guilty

Vince fumo has not been convicted of any crime. I guess reasonable doubt and guilty to proven innocent does not apply to those who people here donot agree with. This includes cheap shots taken at me by the anonymous posters who still will not "man up". If you believe what you say be proud enough to sign your name.

If Fumo is convicted than so be it. Until then he has not been convicted of anything and allegations against him are just that.

Before you attack me please know that I only had one conversation with Fumo in my life.

Interesting how you avoid

Interesting how you avoid the Carol Campbell part.

Carol Campbell

Why would I reply to someone who makes derogatory remarks about someone's physical characteristics. Oh I forgot, the rules of civility do not apply to Ward leaders or elected officials. Making fun of someone's weight, innocent until proven guilty or taking shots at me for something misreported in the paper is ok. You can do it anonymously.

Say hello to your boss for me. I know where you come from and who you represent.

Umm, are you really that

Umm, are you really that oblivious?

I was trying to make a point to you which you obviously can not grasp.

You made a post making fun of someone's physical characteristics. I replied making fun of someone's physical characteristics.

You take offense to it, but you see no problem with you doing it yourself.

And please enlighten myself and the forum who my boss is and where I come from. I am going to go out on a limb and say you have never heard of or met my boss. ;)

Also, I never said you had

Also, I never said you had any connection to Fumo, did I? And did I say he was guilty?

Is this that new "civil" discourse I've been reading about?

Because it sounds more like innuendo to me.

Yeah well, Lou's delicate sensibilities

are deeply offended by "cheap shots."

And speaking of cheap shots:

As far as I know, no Honda Civic in the history of politics has ever been convicted of campaign violations or had full time contributions made to a pension for doing part time work.

But I could be wrong about that.

But Lou and Honda Civic do

But Lou and Honda Civic do have things in common.

They have both hit people. ;)

You are a gutless. You sit behind your anonymous name, probaly in your parents basement and say things about which you know nothing. Man up or shut up.

Just because I haven't told

Just because I haven't told you my last name doesn't make me anonymous. Many people on this forum know and have met me.

And again, before you go crying about cheap shots, you're the one who started acting like a grade schooler and saying stupid comments about Knox and his hair.

So again, don't cry when you get the same thing thrown back at you that you initiated.

So how about you man up and actually act like a man and not a 5 year old with your childish name calling?

You get the point of my posts now?

P.S. not sure what the "say hello to your boss" comment is relating to. I gather you think I work for someone politically.

Yes, but the Subarus are much more ethical.

Because otherwise, why would Mt. Airy residents have so many of them? Subaru for mayor!

Raideradam

I apologize. I made the mistake I always warn against. Never argue with a fool, because pretty soon no one cant tell which one is the fool.

Tell your boss I said hello.

Why I am signing off: Have fun throwing mud at each other

The tone and the words in this exchange are why I am abandnoning this blog. If the moderators do not see fit to delete this kind of personal and offensive set of attacks, then I cannot see wasting my time. It is of course my choice not to read this kind of stuff, but one cannot tell from the headings what the topic is; and more and more of the posts are this nonsensical and offensive tit for tat.

I admit to have been less than fully mature about the issues when I started posting (witness my push to have Jim Kenney tossed out of office for his push to overturn the campaing finance laws: I apologize for this). But this is now how every post seems to wind up. The same 5 or 6 people questioning each other's manhood and throwing personal insults around. It is hard to imagine you will attract the high-level commentary and input of the movers and shakers that has to this point characterized the site if you allow threads like this to flourish and stay on the site. (of course, I do not mean the car jokes but the character assassination the above posters are engaged in).

Enjoy yourselves, I hope you can recover what you had going a few months ago when I found this.

Political Doc

Passionate

Elections are emotional sort of things and local elections are even worse. You know the folks personally and things can get out of hand.

I do think that things may calm down after the primary. This site has accomplished much good and it's potential is enormous. Just 43 days away. Let's all hang in there.

Agreed

Political Doc, believe it or not, I do other things than blog. So, this is the first i have seen of this thread.

I agree whole heartedly with you. Councilman Kenney's words should be heeded as well.

Unfortunately, as much as people like gman and Raider Adam only ever seem to write when they want to stir the pot, but they aren't really doing anything ban-able. Lou, glad to see you took yor own advice since your comment about Knox was inappropriate.

Political Doc and others, the only real solution to the mudslinging that goes on here is to write your own posts and write a lot of them about real issues.

Largely, any post about a candidate has elicited nothing but silly negativity-so write about something else. Electoral politics represent only a small part of the solution to some of our city's challenges.

And with that, I will turn off comments on this post as there's nothing left to say.

I guess one man's "stirring

I guess one man's "stirring the pot" is another man's "offering an opposing viewpoint".

I have agreed and disagreed with many posters on this forum. I have seen a lot of good ideas and a lot of bad ideas come over these pages. I am honest and say when I agree and I am honest and say when I disagree and I rather typically state WHY I disagree.

I know it just burns your britches because I very rarely agree with anything you say and call you out on your reasoning.

In regards to this thread, I was trying to give Lou some tough love and show him how unconstructive his post was. There was nothing malicious with the thread until he decided to throw a Knox cheapshot.

A little hard for Lou to take the high road. (And I don't recall me ever saying anything negative about Lou beforehand.)
