Come to Philly for Change Meet-Up Tonight and learn about the Legacy Project!

Philly for Change is a membership based organization made up of all kinds of Philadelphians who want to make our city a better place to live. PFC creates opportunities for busy people to have direct impact on important issues that affect Philadelphia (like SEPTA, the School District, statewide healthcare issues, etc.). PFC is also committed to making voting easier, holding the Democratic party accountable to its members and making running for office simpler.

In addition, PFC is working to expand its local scope by launching a six-month long campaign to identify and push the best Legacy projects posisble for the current Mayor, administration and Council to pass.

We can’t wait to make change until Mayor Nutter and the new session of City Council begin on January 7th!

Mayor Street and three members of Council, not to mention hundreds of politically appointed city employees, will be leaving city government after the inauguration. However, they still have time to make concrete changes in the lives of all Philadelphians.

Philly for Change members have been asked to submit their ideas for Mayor and Council Legacy projects, and then the most popular ideas will be presented at the PFC Annual Picnic in July. PFC members will then work for the rest of the summer and all fall on those top 2 or 3 issues to convince Mayor Street and/or Council to make these Legacy project ideas reality.

Here’s the criteria Philly for Change members will be asked to meet for Legacy Project entries:

The Legacy Project is focused on choosing three ideas that the current mayor and Council can act on before January 7th. Therefore all entries must meet the following criteria:

1- The idea you submit must be something that the Mayor or Administrative offices under the Mayor’s purview or Council can act on.

2- You must name a specific action that the Mayor or Council can take, not general things like “save the environment” or “end violence.”

3- The city budget process is over. Therefore, ideas that won’t require new money to be allocated from the city coffers are more likely to be successful than those that do.

4- Philly for Change is an all-volunteer organization. Therefore, though not required, it would be helpful if you could name organizations in the city or state that could help support the idea you are proposing.

Tonight's Meet-Up will be the offical launch of this new project. Group members will be split into small groups to brainstorm ideas. Individual members will then have at least the next two weeks to think about a submission before the deadline. If you can't make the meeting tonight, an online submission form for the Legacy Project will soon be available (and I will let you know when).

Please come to Meet-Up tonight and participate! There will also be an update on the struggle for SEPTA funding and various state and federal iniatives that are going on.

Come one, come all: 1508 South Street @ Tritone. Meet-Up starts at 7:00 PM.

OK!

"Mayor" Nutter? I'm taking you off my MySpace Page!
