Congratulations, Mayor-Elect Nutter!

Live results here, and Tom Knox is conceding as I type. If current numbers hold, it'll be somewhere around:

Nutter 35
Knox 28
Brady 18
Fattah 14
Evans 6

Two of the three new Council members -- Campbell and Savage -- look like they're falling to Curtis Jones and Maria Quinonez-Sanchez. Ben Ramos and Bill Green look like they'll be replacing Blondell Reynolds-Brown and Juan Ramos on the at-large side, but, still, this reform wave that led to 60%+ of the mayoral vote going to the relatively non-power candidates didn't lead to a big change in Council.

Congrats to Councilmen Kenney and Goode for retaining their seats. Posting on YPP makes a difference, people!

Let's talk.

Fattah's got to be worried

A result this bad might make him vulnerable in the Congressional primary. Demographics of the 2nd district work in has favor, though.

Anyway, congrats to Nutter!

Oddly

I was going to say the same re: Congressman Brady. We'll have to wait to see the ward-by-ward results first, however.

Rittenhouse is Fattah's district, right?

Now we know that you can't buy the mayorship for $10 million. How about a seat in Congress?

I support Michael Nutter for Mayor. My slate.

Yeah

They have the seniority arguement to make, though. I don't think I'd vote against Fattah: he's on appropriations!

I'm thinking of '91

Bill Gray's protege, George Burrell, similarly flamed out in the primary. By Labor Day Gray was out of the House.

Here's the thing

DiCicco's strong win in the 1st District suggests that the party machine is still strong in South Phila; we just need to see how the wards turned out. That Congressman Brady neither lives in the District nor wanted to be a Congressman are both marks against him.

1st District

Does Brady not live in the 1st? I thought he was in the overhang of Overbrook south of Lancaster Ave -- those districts are drawn funny.

my bad

It looks like the redrawn district does include his home in Overbrook Farms. It didn't when he was first elected, I'm almost positive.

Operation Ratfuck was pretty thorough.

Speaking of Congress, Allyson Schwartz was up on stage with Nutter earlier.

It's a new day people: chill, please.

Magnaminity

Take a cue.

I'm speaking

of the Republican redistricting project.

yup.

And it backfired. PA-6 has turned out exactly as they hoped, but to create it and a close PA-13, they made Jim Greenwood's and Curt Weldon's districts more Democratic, figuring each could absorb the influx of blue voters. Both are now held by Dems, and PA-13 is pretty safe Dem under Schwartz.

I disagree. I think it

I disagree. I think it shows that DiCicco wasn't weak.

Kenney and Goode didn't just

Kenney and Goode didn't just retain their seats -- it looks like they'll finish 1 and 2.

I should also note that,

I should also note that, even though everyone was allowed to vote for five council reps at-large, Kenney and Goode both easily got more votes than any of the mayoral candidates besides Nutter.

"Nutter-Butter supporters!?" How DARE HE use the B-word. I thought we were past that as a society.

Mayor -Elect?

Doesn't he have another election before he gets that title?

Technically,

Technically, yes.

Realistically, no.

Crazy Al's Website

This pretty funny:

Despite the fact that he has not launched his website in the height of public interest in this mayoral race, I laughed out loud reading his little message to Nutter.

I agree with the

I agree with the realisticlly. Nutter is most likely going to steamroll through November.

I just like to go by a certain thing involving chickens, counting and hatching. ;)

The only thing preventing a

The only thing preventing a Nutter victory would be on the level of hell freezing over. Democrats will all support Nutter and he is popular enough to get Republican votes. But its a 4-1 advantage and the opponent is Al T (something or other.)

(He is a very nice guy, but no one knows his name, outside of the Northeast, where most Republicans live.)
