Debate Crowd Shows Much Love For Nutter

If you are looking for objectivity: you won't find it in this post.

On a bitterly cold night Nutter drew warm applause from the crowd as he demonstrated the most comprehensive knowledge of the environmental challenges facing Philadelphia. Clearly, the crowd at the Academy of Natural Sciences agreed with his plans:

“Judging from the quality of applause alone, it seems Michael has the clearest most popular vision for the city,” said attendee Christopher Plant of Elfant Wissahickon Realtors. “Mike just feels right.”

Brett Mapp of Whole Food Markets agreed, saying “former Councilman Nutter had the most knowledge and he was the most prepared. And I also have to say that he was the funniest. In two words, he rocked.”

Mary Ellen Bennett felt that “Nutter made the best showing and was most responsive to the questions asked.”

In a press conference earlier in the day, Nutter released his sustainability policy that articulated his vision for a greener Philadelphia. “I am committed to improving the quality of life for all Philadelphians and it was a pleasure to talk about the issues and ideas and what the future can hold for Philadelphia as the ‘greenest’ city,” said Nutter.

For anyone who cares, here is Michael's sustainability plan.

Disclosure: Information provided by Nutter for Mayor campaign volunteers and friends. I will probably volunteer at some Nutter events over the next month or three. I'm also supporting new faces on council.

There's no question...

As was mentioned many times in your previous post, Nutter was clearly the best candidate at the forum. Now, lets see if he can bring his message to the streets...

I work for Damon K. Roberts in his run for City Council. Unless otherwise stated this and every comment by myself is the opinion of myself, and not of Damon or any other candidate, organization, committee, etc.

With Nutter, issues trump ideology

and that is one reason why I'm a big fan. For anyone who wants to be part of the army, please click on Nutter's homepage below.

Chuck Norris doesn't care about Philadelphia.

He has the entire universe to patrol.

Knox loses to Queena Bass

When Tom Knox loses to Queena Bass in a Mayoral Debate, he can no longer credibly claim to be fit for more than playing golf. I'd rather have a Mayor who can move the heavens--someone like Michael Nutter. ;)

Hasn't this motion been tabled already? Or is this Groundhogs day?

Couldn't resist the cue

The rhyme was pretty good wasn't it?

Wow

Tom Knox really does have a lot of money! At least, he's got enough so that his staff can write goofy poems. Susan, you're better than that. Why don't you spend more time telling us about what a great Mayor Tom Knox would be...about his record of civic involvement...about his great plans for turning this City around. Try to be a bit more positive.

What are you talking about?

I didn't write the poem.

Huh?

The whacky post above? You didn't post/write it?

I wrote the Michael Nutter/Chuck Norris jokes.

I didn't write any poems.

Whatever

Not really the point...I'd be interested in hearing you talk more about your candidate, as I said above. His record of civic engagement, his plans for the City, etc. Try to be positive...I don't see how mocking Mike Nutter is going to be be an effective tactic for the Knox campaign, but it's up to you.

I wasn't mocking Michael Nutter.

I was poking gentle fun at those who apparently believe the man walks on water. Michael is a talented, articulate politician, but as far as I know, not a superhuman.

Still Confused

Ok, I sort of get it. I'd still offer some unsolicited advice; stick to telling us what is great about Tom Knox and why he should be Mayor. Tell us about his record of civic engagement in Philadelphia. What has he done in the past to move the City forward? How does that connect up with his plans for the future?

Superhuman? No, but Mike Nutter was an incredibly effective and responsive Councilperson for 15 years and does certainly have a lot of supporters who feel strongly about him. Like I said, I don't think the mocking Mike Nutter strategy is going to be a winning one for the Knox campaign, especially from his paid staff.

I thought it was funny

A few laughs around here would not be a bad thing. But yes, Friedman, to save you time, I'm not supporting Michael Nutter for Mayor.

And a surprising little know fact is that Nutter

owns a pair of Stan Shapiro pajamas.

But seriously, Susan, I'm still waiting for an answer about Knox's history of concern about poverty issues and social programs.

I'd really like to vote for an outsider in this election -- but given the whole payday loan thing, to get my vote you've got to come up with something to show that Knox really hasn't had a history of indifference to folks who can't afford to pay their bills without taking out 400% loans.

I hope he doesn't disappoint you.

Many men promise to make the earth move, but a relative few deliver.

At least he tells us how he

At least he tells us how he plans to move the Earth.

Those who can, do.

Those who can't, tell us what they're going to do. And by the way, while I'm the first to applaud Michael on the no-smoking bill, please note that it took him, what, six years to accomplish it - with a mayor who actually wanted a no-smoking bill. Maybe he can't make the earth move, after all.

And the irony is ...

people give Nutter a hard time about how long it took him to get a smoking bill through, but don't hold accountable the other council members who made it difficult.

Excellent Point!

Knox has got Nutter beat for sure...it only took Tom Knox (with a little help from Ed Rendell and David L. Cohen) 18 months to balance the City's budget :)

Oh please

Can we all give Tom Knox a rest? I'll buy that he's the cat's meou when I see the Rendell/Cohen endorsement, which will not happen, because they care about the future of the city! He was a buddy of the mayor's, and got to play deputy mayor for a while. Let's stop acting like it was a serious assignment.

Yup

It was tongue and cheek....

Susan, don't you mean...

Those who can rip-off the poor to make themselves richer than they already are, do?

While we're on the subject of promising to make the earth move without details, where is Tom going to find the $400 million of waste that he constantly talks about. If he knows it's there, why can't/won't he detail where the waste specifically is in the budget and what needs to be cut or run more efficiently?

Does he need a copy of the City budget? Because I'm pretty sure you can get a hold of one.

Or does he just have a nixon-esque secret plan that he doesn't think we poor people need to know about?

I support Michael Nutter for Mayor

What I took away about Fattah ...

is that he has a lot of ideas, but not solutions. I never picked up a lot of "what he would like to do" but very little of "how he would do it".

smoking ban

Must have expended a great deal of political capital to push that ban thru...will provide fascinating reams of conjecture among political commentators as to the acumen and clout not to mention innate strategic vision necessary to guide this legislation to law.... contemplate the unpopularity of this move...the temper of the times...Nutter rising above the fray..posterity will look back at this as his finest hour. Disreali step aside! Let's ponder on Nutter's next bold move!

Seriously...

I think Susan is actually mistaking Mike Nutter for Cole Hamels...
