Drinking Liberally, Mount Airy, 1/24: DL Strikes Back!
Fellow Liberal Drinkers-
Well, it's been a long time since last we met. I hope we all had fun during the December holidays, and that we kept our political wits razor sharp to boot.
We'll need those wits going into what seems to be a wide open, fierce fight on both the Democratic and Republican sides. Why do we need our wits when we're not candidates? To debate their pros and cons, of course! Clinton vs. Obama vs. Edwards- who's the real hope for progressives in this country? Giuliani vs. Romney vs. Huckabee vs. McCain- who's more likely to destroy the country? Did anyone even care that Fred Thompson dropped out? People thought that they were getting Arthur Branch; instead, they got a dried up stick. And will the good people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have any say in who gets nominated?
So, come one, come all to the Mermaid Inn, 7673 Germantown Ave., at 7:00 PM tonight, as we discuss the primary jousting + sample their tasty brews.
Drink to Democracy!

08 Local Races
I was waiting for my bus on Broad St and apparently there was an event at the Italian Bistro for local candidates. A gentleman was standing outside who was running for Fumo's seat who was talking with people going in and sharing that he wasn't invited or allowed in. We talked for a minute and my political gears were wondering on who all was running or challenging established incumbents? We're 3 months from another primary! (if there is already a thread on this, direct me there, please!)

That was Jack Morley who is
That was Jack Morley who is the Republican running against Fumo in Nov. It was a Neighborhood Networks forum for the 1st State Senate District primary. Since Morley will not be challenged in the Republican primary the decision was to not have him particpate in the primary forum. He did a get chance to stand up and introduce himself and make a short statment. Joe Vignola and Anne Dicker participated in the question and answer portion. Vince Fumo declined to particpate.

Thanks for the update. Is the Neighborhood Networks group party or issue based? I'm looking for more grassroots groups to get involved in

Both elections and issues
NN endorses candidates in elections (Democrats on the whole, but we don't have a rule about that) and also does issue work. More here.
Haile Johnston is our coordinator in your area; he ran for City Council in the 5th district last year.
