The Fair and Clean Elections Press Conference

Pictured is Andy Toy, signing the Philadelphia Fair and Clean Elections Pledge.

Overall, we had a great response- 4 Mayoral candidates signed the pledge- Dwight Evans, Chaka Fattah, Mike Nutter and Big Al Taubenberger.

For Council- there were about 25 signers- including eight incumbents, and a whole bunch of challengers you may have heard of.

Click read more for the full list, and some more pictures- including the Mayoral candidate who came and signed the pledge in person. Also signing in person, and pictured below were Marc Stier, Matt Ruben, Irv Ackelsberg and Damon Roberts. Derek Green was there, as well, but is not in the pics.

And, yeah, shockkkkingly, no signature from Tom Knox, and none from Bob Brady either.

It was

It was announced? I didn't see it, I guess.

Are you guys saying that

Are you guys saying that elections in Philly aren't usually clean and fair? If so, it is about time that people stop saying that voter fraud is a made up Republican myth. go to neighborhoodcivicpac.blogspot.com for archives as to some of the City's problems when dealing with elections in this city.

Voter fraud as per the GOP

In general, when the GOP raises allegations of voter fraud, the specific purpose is to depress turnout of voters who tend to lean Democratic- minorities + the poor, especially. I can't speak for the specific issues that the 'Clean and Fair Elections' Pledge addresses, but I rather doubt its purpose is to depress poor and minority turnout.

So are you saying

So are you saying Republicans only claim voter fraud as a political stunt and Dems only claim voter fraud when it is real?

From its language, the Fair

From its language, the Fair and Clean Elections Pledge is technically about campaign finance reform -- i.e. ending conflict of interest in donations and pushing for public financing of elections -- and uncommitted with respect to voter fraud.

So you can vote as many times as you like, as long as your candidate him/herself is clean. :-) [Kidding, kidding.]

Not necessarily...

but I am saying that the GOP is well-known for using bogus claims of voter fraud, while the Dems have not, at least not in the recent past. This is not to say that the Democratic machine in Philly is squeaky-clean; clearly, it is not. I'm just making the case that we're really comparing apples to oranges here.

yet the dems in philly have

yet the dems in philly have actual claims of voter fraud against them.

Why split hairs?

Sure they may be apples and oranges, but they are both fruit.

Everything doesn't have to be about the GOP. ;)

Bob Brady signs fair and clean elections pledge

I just wanted to point out that as of 5/9/2007, Bob Brady has signed the "Fair and Clean Elections Pledge". Additionally, Bob Brady has endorsed the R.E.F.O.R.M. agenda, agreeing to 22 of the 24 proposed changes.

If anyone has any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me at steveatty@gmail.com
