Who we are: PICO is one of the largest, most diverse grassroots community organizing networks in the United States, working in 150 cities and 18 states, and in Central America and Rwanda. PICO’s mission is to teach ordinary people the tools they need to improve their communities and transform society. The PICO network includes 53 affiliates, representing more than one thousand religious congregations and one million families. PICO affiliates have led successful campaigns to expand access to health coverage, improve inner-city public schools, reduce youth violence and create affordable housing.
Job description: PICO National Network is looking for someone with strong writing skills and online communications experience to produce content for our website (www.piconetwork.org), e-mail newsletters and action alerts, print publications and help manage online communication. Be part of a grassroots movement to transform American society. PICO brings people of faith together to improve opportunities for working families and revitalize low-income communities; we are one of the largest, most diverse grassroots organizing networks in the United States, with affiliates working in 150 cities and 17 states, and in Central America and Rwanda. This is a one-year position, with the potential to become a permanent position. Location is negotiable. The online communications/writing position will report to the Director of Communications.
Responsibilities
* Research, write and update content (primarily media coverage, news stories and case studies about organizing victories) on PICO’s website (www.piconetwork.org)
* Help write and produce e-news updates and written newsletters and annual reports
* Develop and manage online material, advocacy campaigns and e-mail messaging to support national organizing campaigns and events
* Help track, grow and maintain PICO’s segmented national e-mail list
* Help track and increase the number of visitors to www.piconetwork.org
* Help train and support PICO federations in adopting online messaging, new content managed websites and mobile communications tools
Qualifications
* Strong ability to write well and quickly for the web, e-mail and print
* Experience with Content Management Systems and e-mail messaging tools is a plus
* Ability to prepare images and text for web publication
* Ability to pay close attention to details and consistently get them right
* Ability to work under time pressure, prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
* Ability to work as part of a “virtual” work team located in different cities
* Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community organizing
* Willingness to learn about the PICO network and its approach to faith-based community organizing
Salary and Benefits: Salary based on experience; Length of employment - contract based, Excellent benefits package -health/dental coverage; retirement fund and paid vacation.
