I'm gonna be honest with you.

Hey folks.

Okay, here's the deal. We all want healthcare reform, right? And some of us have been wanting healthcare reform since... oh, I dunno... 1993? When the Democratic party controlled the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, and it still didn't happen?

Well, we're probably going to get this great new president, President Obama, who is running on healthcare reform and has a great plan to lower the costs for everyone. Unfortunately, things don't happen just because they are good ideas.

If elected, President Obama is going to have many battles to fight. Even before the stock market crash, it was going to be hard for him.

Even if you are a liberal Saul-Alinsky-quoting Chicago community organizer who has "Si se puede" as your campaign slogan and you have been known to consort with former members of the Weather Underground because who wouldn't want to ask Bill Ayers some questions if given the opportunity anyway?!? - just being President doesn't mean that you get to turn this country into a progressive fantasy land.

No no and no. There will be tremendous pressure from the insurance industry on Congress to do absolutely nothing about healthcare reform.

Just like last time.

It's up to you to make sure that healthcare reform actually happens.

This Thursday at 5 p.m., three members of Congress are going to a public sign-on in downtown Philly to agree to pass real healthcare reform in 2009. These are three of the Democrats who are going to be battling for serious reform that puts people above profits when this stuff comes down next year:

Rep. Chaka Fattah, Rep. Bob Brady, and Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

They are heroes for standing up for this cause.

And they need you to show up so they know you care too.

At 5 p.m. we are having a rally on the lawn of Independence Mall to show them - and the whole country - that we are going to continue to put the pressure on no matter what.

It's time to put our resources into healthcare and social services, not the endless wars that are eating our federal budget alive - and especially so if we have a recession coming.

Please join us - just a few minutes after work on Thursday can make all the difference.

just curious

This is very awesome. However, it's unfortunate that this is the same time as Bread & Roses' Tribute to Change event where several labor leaders are being honored and a good crew of people who would want to support this will be at.

Can you say a little about why you picked this day and time?

The date was chosen by HCAN nationally

as there will be events like this all over the country--althoug the PHilly event is the flagship HCAN event.

We picked the time because a) we want to get people to come after work and b) we'd like to get live TV.

I'm planning on going to the B+R event after the HCAN event as I do every years. There is usually an hour long cocktail party before the awards at B+R so you can come to our event, which should be over by 6:15 and get to the second half of the B+R event.

This time of year it is practically impossible not to schedule a political event progressives want to attend at a time when there is not other political event that progressives want to attend.
