Important Environmental and Economic Legislation
Interested in helping the environment and creating jobs? We all know how important energy independence is to our economy and national security. Most of us are familiar with the ambitious and exciting "Pickens' Plan," which touts wind based power as the foundation to our nation's move to energy independence. What you may not know is that experts estimate that clean energy, like wind based power, will create over 100,000 jobs and $19 billion in investment.
You may also be surprised to know that Philadelphia and the 182nd District are home to one of the world's leaders in wind based power, Gamesa Wind USA. Clean energy providers, like Gamesa, have the potential to reinvent our local economy and are posed to reap the rewards of the job creation and massive investment the experts predict.
However, Congress is threatening Philadelphia's potential to lead our nation to energy independence. On December 31, 2008 the Wind Production Tax Credit ("WPTC") will expire. In a nutshell, the WPTC provides tax relief to wind energy providers for each kilowatt hour of electricity produced. Clean energy providers can reinvest the savings creating jobs and spurring local economic growth. So, we have a rare chance to help the environment and economy. Its a win win with a direct impact right here in the City.
Congress debated extending the WPTC before partisan bickering ended the debate and Congress headed to the beach. We need Congress to act before the end of the year. Please let your United States Congressman know that extending the WPTC is vital to our economy. Here is a link that allows you to contact your Congressman directly about this legislation http://capwiz.com/windenergy/issues/alert/?alertid=11443536
