My first blog
Hello out there, this is my first time so be kind to a rookie. I just wanted to say thank you all for efforts on election day. WE and I want to emphasize WE were very successful. I know that we will not always agree on everything, but look what can happen when for the most part we do. I enjoyed my first meeting with some of you and believe it or not am looking foward to doing it again. I am sorry it took so long for me to enter the blog world but I do not have the time I would like to have. If I don't respond quickly it is not because I am not interested, I just can't keep all the balls in the air all the time. That for me is a shame because I DO enjoy appreciate and respect the various opinions that everyone has and is entitled to. Don't ever let that happen to you. MAKE time for yourself and especially your family. I am going to try to make your victory party if you will have me, if not, it won't be the first time I was someplace where I wasn't welcome and I am sure it won't be the last. Again, great victory!!! ps. sorry about the grammer and spelling on this and on ALL FUTURE BLOGS. Have a great and healthy Thanksgiving. Bob Brady

Welcome to Young Philly Polit
Welcome to Young Philly Politics, Congressman.
You are probably the first writer that I can guarantee that Wilson Goode will not curse at.
It is undeniably true that when the party, and people like us, are united, we can turn out a lot of votes in Philly. So you know though, a lot of what we focus on this blog is all those times where our interests diverge. We can all agree we needed to get rid of Santorum. Can we all agree on what we need in City Hall? That is the harder question. When Santorum, Bush and other assorted bogeymen leave the room, and national politics are off the table, how much agreement is there? That is obviously a pretty broad question, and, I think we will see it in effect over the next 6 months or so.
(And considering I received 4 emails just between 6AM and 10AM yesterday for Vern's party, I am sure you will be welcomed.)
Welcome ,Congressman. This si
Welcome ,Congressman. This site has a great deal of intellegent writers who are dedicated to getting their message out. Even though I was on a different side in the last senatorial election,I had some meaningful discussions over the facts.I knew 4 months ago I was on the losing side but you know me I go down with the ship..fighting. Anyway, I'm glad you brought up the grammer and spelling because my first time on YPP I got reprimanded by Sister St.Jim Kenney over the same thing. I'm like you, we got big fingers that are not made for typing.Sister Kenney doen't get it. Not one to be shy I fired Back at his jugular vein and put him back in his hole. I even had my blog deleted by the "powers that be" here at YPP. I might be the first blogger to get their free speach violated on a liberal website. Anyway WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!
Congressman Brady, Welcome
Congressman Brady,
Welcome! Dan and Ray run a great show here and you should enjoy yourself. And, Mike Fera is right, we did have meaningful discussions related to Santorum and why he shoud lose.
Gaetano P.
You're ALWAYS welcome to the victory party Chairman!
We have one the first Wednesday of everymonth at Lucy's Hat Shop. (3rd and Market @ 7pm)
Congressman Welcome
Welcome to the Young Philly Politics! I will see you at the victory party.
Philly Democratic Party
Dear Congressman and Chair of Pennsylvania Democrats,
What is your opinion of the condition of the Philadelphia Democratic Party? How do you explain the numerous instances when Democratic Ward leaders and Committee people work against official Democratic candidates? Are you going to do anything about it?
Ward leaders in NE Philly actively supported John Perzel
Leader of 57 Ward distributed counterfeit "Official" Democratic ballots without name of official Democratic candidate for State Representative - Perzel's opponent Tim Kearney. Committee people in Ward 55 distributed ballots with Kearney name crossed out with black marker, or covered with sticker "Vote Perzel first". I would like to know opinion of the Party Chairman on this situation, and what he is going to do about it.
I am a committee person myself, and I am outraged.
Welcome!
Welcome!
WWGjr
Congressman ...
I guess you can explain to Dan my value to the Party as an independent Progressive that earned Party support.
WWGjr
You are so right...I can not
You are so right...I can not argue with that big of a victory!!
Welcome Chairman
Maybe we can all throw a fund raiser to add a spell check to YPP! But that might take away some of the fun!!
we missed you last week!
I was hoping to see you at the Philly Against Santorum victory party last Tuesday! What the hell were you doing instead? Sitting home I bet!
Seriously though, welcome and hope we don't clash horns too much ;)
or, similarly
when Ward leaders support Republican candidates? you once swore that Ward leaders who supported Specter would pay for it -- have they?

Sister Kenney?
Funny, I don't recall Kenney whining about being "violated" by a bunch of 20-something bloggers. Why, oh why, don't these liberal kids love me?
Cry me a friggin river!
Democratic Committee People supporting Republicans
In my Ward, the 21st, we have, and will, remove any Committee Person that supports a Republican. Before every General election I tell the Committee People that if they support the Republican, don't bother to quit, because they will be thrown out.
Perzel
You should be more outraged that the NE cannot come up with more viable candidates. I know and like Tim (we played basketball together for years), but he had no chance.
Actually you werent the first to get censored, Mike
Somebody deleted my post entitled "this blog is such a circle jerk."
Come on!!!
Criticism is good for the polis!!!

You win some, you lose some.
You win some, you lose some. It is a democracy for a reason.
The real question is...
Why didn't you crash the Rendell party? Our party was definitely more fun, but we didn't have all the TV cameras!
Bob Brady and Mikey Fera posting on a blog?
I think YPP has jumped the shark.
How do you throw them out?
I didn't know that you could oust Committee People. How do you throw them out? Is there like a vote or something?
How about the sign?
Does the John Dougherty 2007 sign come down now from a certain South Philly union hall in light of the recent early morning visit from some G-Men?
The Republicans win your ward alot!
You didn't support me in any of my Democratic primary races - even though your committee people were supportive when I was there in 2003.
And then, in the 2003 general election, a Republican At-Large candidate placed first in your ward and other Republicans placed high there. That's fact.
Who did you support over me in the primary?
Dan Pelliciotti - later convicted of fraud for trying to fake certification as a disadvantaged business to get a City contract.
WWGjr
Yeah no kidding!
I totally agree with you Lou. But who would we run against Perzel??
We could definitely run a woman!
that was funny, larry.
and how much would that spell check cost???

Viable Candidate
What do you mean by "viable candidate"? What is wrong with Tim?
I can answer my last question: Nothing.
Talking about chances, what is the chance of a candidate who is running against his own party machine?
You should be outraged about the condition of Democratic Party in NE Philly instead of dismissing good Democratic candidates.
victory parties
Many an election night party I've been to over the years, winners and losers, but none top last Tuesday at Lucy's with Philly Against Santorum. When Ricky came on the TV screen to concede I thought the place would levitate from the sheer joy and noise level. One of my all time favorite moments in politics. Plus, the music, food and bar were all way better than the Rendell party, where I stopped in later. A very fitting end to a slamming campaign. It sure was fun working with y'all.
Clout
What is "jumped the shark" mean?
Throw them out
City Committee rules allow for the removal of any Committee Person who supports a Republican.
D's supporting R's in NE Philly
I’ve long been disturbed by the failure of some NE Philly Democratic Party committeepeople and ward leaders to support Democratic candidates. My disappointment extends to progressive unions who supported Perzel in the last election. When control of the house is at stake, how can Democrats support Republican candidates for state house seats????
If Democrats did not think Tim K. was a strong candidate, why didn’t they recruit someone they considered better to run in the primary? Why just cede the field to Republicans?
I don’t know registration figures for Perzel’s district but my guess is that this district is competitive for a Democrat.
Also, John Taylor’s district is majority Democratic and voted 60% Democratic in last presidential election. The demographics in this district are changing and it's clearly competitive for a Democrat. Why aren’t the Democratic operatives in Taylor’s district recruiting a strong Democratic candidate? Are they keeping a seat warm for some ward leader’s relative when Taylor decides to move on???

#2 Hard Polcy Queston for Kenney same as number 1.
I can't believe Kenney gets a free pass on true ethics questions when it comes to his own ethics violations,(Vitetta) and those of his mentor, his champion, his creator, Vince Fumo.
I am disappointed in the young libewrals that they do not demand answers on something as huge as the Citizen's alliance Scandal? Does no one care? Does no one realize the scale of the abuse at Citizen's Alliance? Sometimes I feel the young progressives are hedging their bets when it comes to taking on the power elite, afraid someday they may need a job, or support from the powers that be. That's only natural. Enlightened self interest, and all that, but... that's why these "leaders " get away with so much 'Corruption". Because no one speaks out. I mean, I'm suprised vittetta does not have a policy against it's employees wasting time on political blogs. Does everyone know who Vittetta is and what they do? Perhaps Kenney will care to explain, or to give us a job description. Councilman ?
Vittetta contract at the Food distribution center? Silence.
Kenney loan from Citizen's Alliance. Silence.
PennsLanding Board Meeting Transparency? Silence.
Are you this silent when you are called in to speak with Federal Authorities?
But now you are glib on the web sites.
Why the conspiracy of silence Councilman ?
Why no outrage, no pronouncements, no petulant outcry from you over the questionable activities at Citizen's Alliance, arguably the worst case of pay to play in Philadelphia political history ? You, who so eagerly jump in front of the news cameras to vilify others who have lost their way, have had nothing to say about the FBI investigation of Citizen's Alliance ? Why? Why ? Why? Why not?
Did the feds drag you in and ask you about the details of the loan you received from Citizen's Alliance? Wastamatter,Jimmy, Vince got you under a gag order?
I don't expect you to do anything but run and hide from this line of questioning, but, in the event you have a momentary spurt of growth where your gonads are supposed to be, answer one little question: In retrospect, don't you think it would have been better for PECO to have given the 17 Million dollars that the gave to CA directly to charity? Ditto, the 11 Million the DRPA coughed up ? Now, it would seem the money purported to benefit the communities is benefitting who?- the lawyers defending CA.
Really, can we please get a look at the books at Citizen Alliance?
How many spokespeople are getting paid out of that fund?
Sprague already got what, $1 million from the senate for his legal bill defending Fumo's perogatives.?
How much of the approximately 30 million that Citizen's Aliance has hoarded has been eaten up by lawyers fees? Is there anything left for the communities ?
This is the same thing that happened to the Barnes Foundation,- the lawyers dwindled down the endownment so that there was not enough left to carry out Barnes wishes.
I won't be rushing back to see your response because I know there won't be one.
I hope Carol Cambell sits next to you in Council, -you are just like her underneath all the good government bullshit you spout.
Life after Vince ain't going to be easy for you, so why don't you just take a job with the casinos or something, since you've laid down so nicely on that issue. Why aren't you running your mouth about the sites? Got promised something nice to keep your mouth shut, huh?
You're a two streeter ain't you? How come you've done nothing to help that community to fight the Foxwoods site? betrayed your own neighborhood by your silence. Take the money and run Jim, and c'mon, smile for christ sake, you're getting rich ain't cha?

21st Ward
1. I have only been the Ward leader for one of your elections.
2. No Republican has ever finished first for anything in my Ward since I have been Ward leader. This includes Spector, Santorum, Frank Rizzo, Jr. etc. The Ward is very big and has many Republicans. Perhaps one of the Republicans for Council finished high in 2003, but not ahead of the Democrats. The Ward finished first in the City for Rendell (more than 36 counties)and Casey(more than 29 counties).
3. The Committee people voted who to support in 2003. They picked who they picked. How do you know we did not support Juan Ramos over you in the Primary. Juan turned out to be a very good Councilperson.
4. You have called me once over the past four years. If you wanted to reach out you could have instead of taking shots at me in this forum.
5. Decisions are made on who will be best for the Ward. Perhaps you should visit us so people can see what you are about.
6. You are always welcome at our Ward meetings and Holiday Party. Call me if you want to come.
7. The sign of a true warrior is one that can make an enemy into an ally.
Definition of "jump the shark"
it's what TV critics use to say when a show has passed its peak and now is in decline.
ha ha gar very funny.
you're still reading it!!!

Hey GBAH, your attacks would
Hey GBAH, your attacks would ring a little more true if you 1)weren't such a jerk, and 2)used your actual name.
As it is now, with you just cutting and pasting what you wrote from last week, you make sure that no real questions, if they are there, will ever see the light of day.
And, as far as I can tell- since you have done two things on here, both attacking Kenney- you have no interest in being a constructive part of the YPP online world, just in spewing bullshit. Don't expect anyone to pay attention to you given this.
Does this justify...
My question to both Mr. Fera and GBAH would be, does any of this justify having Local 98 "electricians" go out and harrass Councilman Kenney's family, or posting vaious signs around the neighborhoods on election day? Does it justify sending them to City Hall to heckel him with cell phones and farting noises? Ya know, as a citizen of 2nd Street and of this city I'd always thought that there could be common ground found on the issues that seperared the two political camps, but obviously one side believes that petty cheap attacks from their goons helps this city, and its citizens more. Truth of the matter is, I have friends on both sides of this, and it makes me sick to hear about this bullshit. Grow up really, you're not pulling pranks at 17th and Girard anymore on the Jesuit priests, get over it.
21st Ward - At-Large 2003 General Election Results
21st Ward - At-Large 2003 General Election Results
Rizzo - 8785
McDermott - 7105
Kelly - 6286
Oh - 5811
Kenney - 5434
Cohen - 5178
Hardy - 4528
Ramos - 4352
Goode - 4032
Reynolds Brown - 3834
The numbers don't lie. The Republican candidate for Mayor also won the 21st Ward in 1999 and 2003.
I only responded to your suggestion that Tim lost to a Republican because he was a bad candidate. Not true.
Some parts of Philadelphia are Republican-friendly - your ward is one of them.
I placed THIRD citywide in the overall vote count behind Kenney and Cohen - and I placed FIRST in 34 different wards - but I placed NINTH in your ward in the general election.
I have visited your ward on more than one occassion and received a tremendous amount of applause the last time I was there - only to later be cut for a candidate like Pelliciotti in the primary. I still placed in the top 5 even though your primary ballot didn't carry me.
Needless to say, the numbers show that it's not easy for a candidate like me in your ward - no matter how qualified and experienced I may be - even though I passed legislation that brought $1 million to one of your community groups.
Enough said. Thanks for the invitation.

I am a Democrat (life long )
I am a Democrat (life long ) but I have to tell everyone if you go into the voting booth and vote the way Bob and the Democrats want then you become just like a worker ant. We as people have a mind and the people that truely use their minds are the one's that vote for the person that does right by them. With that said the reason people like John Taylor get re elected is because they do what they say he has to be doing something right for all those free thinkers to go against Brady's machine. If we had more people like Mr Taylor this city would be in a much better place. MR or Mrs kbojar just to let you know the machine does run strong people against John the only weak person they ran against him was this last time. They spent or should I say Fumo spent about a million a couple years ago to defeat Mr Taylor but the voters in his district do have minds of their own unlike the rest of this city. Constituent service means something in his area I cant say that about the rest of this city we keep electing loser who forget you the day after election. That's my 3 cents.....
Of course you should have your own mind
Of course you should do your homework and vote for the person that does right, but the way you describe it, is very narrow minded. State Reps like John Taylor can do a great job picking up your trash or putting up a "Stop" sign, and then go and screw you up big time with their legislative activity.
How is what I said narrow min
How is what I said narrow minded. First let me state that i have never voted for MR Taylor for i do not live in his area. I have a hobby and that is to read and goto where every any local elected person talks and i listin and take notes and then i follow up and see if they do what they say both Democrats and Republicans ( i dont have a life ) and to tell you the truth i do think that some of the elected republicans are on the right track but not all. Local Democrats have destroyed this city just look at the daily news and tell me does anyone really believe John Street didnt help his bro and how many people out their think Fumo can't do anything wrong. The only reason Bob will run is he knows that this city can not stand to have one of John's many brothers/ sisters run this city again. The problem with this city is that we keep electing the same tools all the time look how narrow minded people are the elected Campbell and Savage And Kelly ( again after he showed us he could not do the job)and even Goode Jr. what do we have to elect the mayors son was that the deal we let his father blow up a street and we not only reward him but we reward his son. Come on people ( brothers and sisters ) wake the hell up. Bob please i beg you run and save this city from the hell that it is about to go thru you all think its bad now wait till Nutter gets in there and makes city council pass laws to where we have to ask to breath or maybe Chaka Fatah will oh well do what ever the hell he wants. Bob is the only one that can change the path this city is going in.
