PHILLY GAS COMMISSION
Submitted by citizen1 on Fri, 08/22/2008 - 2:15pm.
PGW customers, Philadelphians... What do you know about the Philadelphia Gas Commission, What do they do? Where do they do it? When do they do it? Who are the commissioners? In who's interest are they working for? This is one of the powerful groups that oversees PGW but the serving public know little about. Let's shine the light on this opaque body.

PGC
The Gas Commission has 5 members: Two appointed by Council, Two appointed by the Mayor and the 5th member is the City Controller. They have budget oversight of PGW, while the Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation is actually responsible for running it. Ever since the state Public Utility Commission took over he regulation of rates, the PGC's responsibility has become much more limited. They essentially review PGW's budget before it goes to council. Many would argue that PGC is no longer necessary and should have been eliminated when the PUC came about. It would save PGW customers the money they (ratepayers) spend on PGC staff salaries.
