State Rep. Tony Payton???
In other state house primary news, our own Tony Payton Jr, a 24 year old housing counselor at United Communities, Center for Progressive Leaders fellow and Philly Against Santorum campaign treasurer may be the next state representative for the 179th state house district.
The 179th seat has been held for over 30 years by Bill Rieger. Rieger announced his retirement this year (after years of not even showing up in H'burg) and an open race was on to fill it. Two of the four contenders were knocked off the ballot earlier this week, and today Tony filed a challenge against Vasquez, the party favorite, that looks like it's going to stick.
Tony still plans to knock on literally thousands of doors in his district before the primary even though he is very likely going to be the only name on ballot. Tony, when elected, will be another amazing addition to a progressive Harrisburg contingent.

Oh, the irony
The party loves to use ballot challenges to get rid of challengers. How ironic that it might now knock their chosen candidate right off of the ballot.
Good Luck Tony
I'd love to join you in Harrisburg, imagine the possibilities.
Good luck, and all the best.
Go Tony Go
This is very cool. From what I've heard, Tony will be a great addition to Harrisburg and actually do a good job representing his district.
I am 25 years old
Tony Payton Jr. is actually 25 years old as of January 27th, 2006. I promise to post more about my plan for the people of the 179th Legislative district and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I want to publicly congratulate you. I wish you all the best. I have followed you and I think you'll do a great job for philadelphians. Keep it real and stay away from bad crowd. Harrisburg is full of them and the city of Philadelphia has even more. Don't get corrupted in the process and see you on the top.
