Urge Governor Rendell to appoint Joyce Eubanks to the Municipal Court vacancy which currently exists in Philadelphia.

Thanks for spearheading this Karen, and yea Joyce! -Ray

At our chapter meeting this Monday, Philadelphia NOW voted to send a letter to Governor Rendell urging him to appoint Joyce Eubanks to the Municipal Court vacancy which currently exists in Philadelphia.

We enthusiastically endorsed Joyce Eubanks when she ran for a judicial slot last year. Click "read more" below to see the letter written on behalf of the chapter. Joyce would also welcome additional letters from individual supporters.

Dear Governor Rendell:

On behalf of the Philadelphia Chapter of National Organization of Women (NOW) I urge you to appoint Joyce Eubanks to the Municipal Court vacancy which currently exists in Philadelphia.

Joyce Eubanks, Esquire, a 1981 graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, has more than 25 years of experience as a trial attorney, working more than 20 years as an Assistant Defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia. She taught young lawyers for 10 years as an adjunct professor at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, and for more than 25 years volunteered as a mock trial instructor, coach and coordinator with the Law, Education, and Participation Program (LEAP) at the Beasley School of Law.

Ms. Eubanks is currently the Continuing Legal Education Chair for the National Bar Association, Women Lawyers Division, Philadelphia Chapter. She is the General Counsel to the African-American Democratic Ward Leaders and a volunteer attorney for the Democratic City Committee. She provides free legal advice to residents of North Central Philadelphia, where she maintains an office. She is a member of the National Bar Association, Philadelphia Bar Association, Barrister’s Association and other professional, civic and community organizations, including the National Congress of Black Women, NOW, National Association of University Women, and 2000 African American Women; in addition, she is a former Board member of Women Against Abuse. Ms. Eubanks is the recipient of the Cecil B. Moore Community Service Award, the Temple University Legal Aid Award, and the Huey R. Burkett Service Award.

We believe that Joyce Eubanks possesses the qualities to be an excellent judge. Her character, temperament, commitment to the rule of law and an unwavering commitment to the principles of justice make her an exceptional candidate for a judicial position. In addition to these factors, diversity within the judiciary is a very important factor in the choice of a judicial appointment. Highly qualified women and persons of color bring a critically important perspective to the judiciary. As a highly qualified attorney and a woman of color, Ms. Eubanks is an excellent candidate for a judicial position.
We are proud to lend our voice in urging you to appoint Joyce Eubanks to the current vacancy which exists on the Municipal Court in Philadelphia.

Respectfully,

Karen Bojar,
President, Philadelphia Chapter of National Organization of Women
