VANESSA BROWN PRESENTS POW WOW
A Gathering of Native American Family and Friends

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 6, 2008 – Join Vanessa Brown, Democratic candidate for the 190th Legislative District when she presents a Yemasee Blackfeet Muskogee Nation Pow Wow, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Sunday, October 12 at Muhammad Park, Lancaster and Girard Avenues (rain or shine).
“This event is intended to showcase the beauty, strength, spirit and endurance of
Native American indigenous culture by providing the stage, atmosphere and incentives for the continuation of indigenous traditions,” said Brown who includes Native Americans in her ancestry. “The diversity of this district provides an opportunity for an interactive learning experience. We want to see the entire community come together and take part in this unique event.”
The Pow Wow will include storytelling, dancing, poetry and drumming. Vendors will also be on hand with Native American food and crafts. People are encouraged to bring their chairs and come learn about Native American culture. Students from several area schools will participate as part of an interactive learning project.
The event is free to the public. However, several levels of sponsorship are available. “This is a great outing for the entire family and an opportunity to expose our children to America’s indigenous culture,” Brown said. “We must remember to honor and respect those who first inhabited this land. This is the first of many cultural events I hope to sponsor in the 190th Legislative District.”
