Voter Protection opportunities with Committee of Seventy

The Committee of Seventy Voter Protection Program

www.seventy.org

The Committee of Seventy is a non-partisan organization working to improve the Philadelphia region by educating citizens, safeguarding elections and demanding ethical conduct of public officials. Our principal method of fulfilling this mandate is the Voter Protection Program. Inaugurated in 1905, making it the oldest election protection program in America, our program relies heavily on volunteer participation. We train hundreds of nonpartisan volunteers before elections, and on Election Day these volunteers, under the direction of our staff, act as watchdogs either in the field or behind the scenes. Field volunteers -- more than 800 hit the streets for the April 2008 Pennsylvania primary -- visit hundreds of polling places to investigate public complaints, report irregularities, and ensure that proper procedures are followed. Other volunteers operate our Election Day Hotline from 6:30 am until 8:30 pm, taking calls from Philadelphians -- who may have questions about the conduct of polling-place officials or may just need to know where to go to vote. It's a great way to make a real impact. Get Involved: Your commitment as a volunteer will require no more than Election Day (Nov. 4), and one hour-long training session prior to November 4th.
